Conway High School Students Learn More About Drones

Students in Mr. Matt Vanasse’s Introduction to Engineering class were recently treated to a presentation on small unmanned aerial systems or more commonly known as “drones”. The presentation was lead by Sergeant First Class (SFC) Gary Lain and Staff Sergeant Aaron Simpson. Sergeant Lain is the Small Unmanned Aerial Systems Manager for the SC National Guard and Sergeant Simpson is the SC National Guard Recruiter responsible for Conway High School. According to Mr. Vanasse “this presentation offered his students the opportunity to connect their engineering theory with real-world applications. Additionally this presentation gave his students an opportunity to see one of many technical fields resident in the military. According to SFC Lain small unmanned vehicles is a burgeoning field in both the military and civilian arenas in applications such as search and rescue and aerial surveys.
